Over eight weeks, daily prebiotic fiber produced an approximately 4.5-fold increase in Bifidobacterium, a beneficial gut bacterium, while no meaningful change occurred in the placebo group. Lactobacillus also trended upward with supplementation, while Clostridium remained unchanged. Overall, the study found a favorable shift toward beneficial gut bacteria with daily prebiotic fiber supplementation.
